Merav Michaeli ( Hebrew מרב מיכאלי, Born November 24, 1966 in Petach Tikwa ) is an Israeli journalist and politician of the Avoda .

Life

Michaeli started working for the radio at the age of nineteen and as a television presenter at 21. She writes as a journalist for the daily Haaretz . She represents feminist positions and is also committed to all discriminated groups. In 1996 she led a campaign for rape victims. Marriage as a political, legal and economic institution has nothing to do with love and romance, which is why it at a TEDx conference in Jaffa in 2012 called for at least the introduction of civil marriage in Israel.

In 2012 she joined the Labor Party (Avoda) . In the parliamentary elections in Israel in 2013 she ran for the Avoda and has been a member of the 19th Knesset since January 22, 2013 , where she sits on the opposition bench and is a member of the Legal Affairs Committee. In her first parliamentary speech, she addressed feminist issues. She was re-elected to the Zionist Union's list in the 2015 parliamentary elections in Israel .

Although she advocates a two-state solution to be agreed through negotiations between Palestinians and Israelis , in 2013 she opposed a negotiating mandate for the current Israeli government, Netanyahu , because it only wanted negotiations without result. However, every further round of negotiations without a result is harmful to the already low level of trust.

Michaeli is a granddaughter of Rudolf Kastner .
