Mercedes Ruiz

Mercedes Ruiz (* 1980 in Jerez de la Frontera ) is a Spanish flamenco - dancer .

Life

Ruiz began dancing professionally at the age of six under the direction of Ana María López in the play Semilla Flamenco . Then she worked a. a. with well-known flamenco artists by Manuel Morao , Antonio el Pipa and Eva Yerbabuena .

The first stage of her international artistic career brought her to Madrid and New York in 1992 together with Manuel Morao in the Esa forma de Vivir program . In New York, the group performed ten days in the Town Hall Theater. Later that year the show returned to the Plymouth Theater on Broadway for two months . She then performed in Canada with the program “Jerez por Bulería” at the El León de Oro Theater .

In 1998 Ruiz was hired for the Compania Antonio El Pipa and danced in the Vivencias production at the Flamenco Festival de Jerez , at the Centro Cultural de la Villa de Madrid and at the Festival de las Minas in La Unión .

Until the end of 2001 she worked in the Compania Eva Yerbabuena in the program 5 mujeres 5 , which was first shown at the Bienal de Flamenco 2000 . In the same year Ruiz took part in the XI Semana Flamenca de la Mujer Cantaora together with Mariana Cornejo .

In 2002 Mercedes accompanied Ruiz Andrés Peña to festivals in Mont de Marsan in France , Gimont and Biarritz . This was followed by a tour with Belén Maya to Japan . In the same year she joined the Compania Andrés Marín and danced in the program Más allá del tiempo at the New Flamenco Festival in Los Angeles and at the Bienal de Sevilla in 2002 .

At the Festival de Jerez 2003, Mercedes Ruiz presented her first solo program Dibujos en el aire to an international audience with great success. In 2005 she followed her second solo program Gestos de Mujer to the music of Santiago Lara at the Festival de Jerez . Marco Flores danced at her side in this program.

At the Biennal de Flamenco 2006 , Mercedes Ruiz celebrated a great success with its new Juncá program . She is one of the few artists who were allowed to perform on two evenings in a row at this biennial. The program delighted viewers and the press named Mercedes Ruiz the shooting star of this year's event.

Ruiz has received numerous prizes, including the Premio nacional de Córdoba Antonio Gades 2000 and the Jóvenes Intérpretes de la XII Bienal de Sevilla Prize in 2002 .
