Mercedes Vostell (born July 22, 1933 as Mercedes Guardado Olivenza in Ceclavín, Province of Cáceres , Extremadura , Spain ) is a Spanish author and since 1998 artistic director of the Museo Vostell Malpartida . Mercedes Vostell is the widow of the German painter, sculptor and happening artist Wolf Vostell .

Life

In 1958, Mercedes Guardado met the German artist Wolf Vostell in Guadalupe . He was an unknown painter at the time and she was a young teacher who had just started teaching. In 1959 they married in Cáceres and then moved to Cologne . She had their first son, David Vostell , in 1960 and their second son, Rafael, in 1965. In 1971 the family moved to Berlin .

In 1976 Mercedes and Wolf Vostell founded the Museo Vostell Malpartida in Malpartida de Cáceres . Wolf Vostell died in 1998. Together with her two sons and her grandson, she manages his legacy as the artistic museum director. As an author, she dealt with his life and work.
