Merdare ( Serbian - Cyrillic Мердаре ) is a village in the Opština Kuršumlija in the Okrug Toplica in Serbia . A few meters further is the international border crossing Merdare to the Republic of Kosovo .

history

When the border was drawn in 1878, what was then Merdare was divided by Serbia and the Ottoman Empire . This division resulted in two villages with the same name in two different countries. Today there is also a Merdare on the Kosovar Albanian side, a few meters away.

population

133 of the inhabitants claimed to be Muslim Albanians and 6 as Orthodox Serbs in the 2002 census .
