The Merdare border crossing ( Albanian  Vendkalimi kufitar Merdari , Serbian Административни прелаз Мердаре Administrativni prelaz Merdare ) is located in the northeast of Kosovo and connects it with Serbia . From Serbia's point of view, it is not an international border crossing, but merely a police checkpoint within Serbia. Since the declaration of independence of Kosovo in February 2008, the border guards had repeatedly scene of violent clashes between Serbs and Kosovo Albanians .
