Mermaid in a Manhole is a Japanese horror film released in 1988 . It is the fourth part of the Guinea Pig series.

Mermaid in a Manhole is the retelling of a manga by Hideshi Hino , who also directed this part of the series. It is about an artist who, while trying to overcome the death of his wife, finds a wounded mermaid in the Okinawa sewers . He takes her home and after a while she starts bleeding from her wounds. The artist draws a portrait of the mermaid with the blood, but meanwhile her condition deteriorates and she dies. The artist dismantles her corpse, but then the police storm his apartment and it turns out that the portrait he painted depicts his wife and that he has dismembered her body.
