Coordinates: 31 ° 29 ′ S , 118 ° 16 ′ E The Shire of Merredin is a local government area (LGA) in the Australian state of Western Australia . The area is 3300 km² and has about 3350 inhabitants (2016).
Merredin is located in the western Australian "wheat belt" in the southeast of the state about 235 kilometers east of the capital Perth . The seat of the Shire Council is in the city of Merredin , where about 2600 inhabitants live (2016).

The Merredin Council has nine members. They are elected by all residents of the LGA. Merredin is not divided into districts. The Council Chairman and Shire President are also recruited from among the Councilor.
