Message (magazine)

from Wikipedia, the free encyclopedia

Message was an international journalism magazine. It was founded in 1999 by Michael Haller , professor of journalism at the University of Leipzig, as the successor to the magazine “Sage und Schreibe”. It was published quarterly in Germany, Austria and Switzerland until 2014. Haller was the editor of Message until 2013. In 2010 Lutz Mükke was added as the second editor, after Haller's retirement, Volker Lilienthal took his position. The editorial office was initially located in Leipzig , and from 2012 in Hamburg .

The trade journal had set itself the goal of ensuring quality and independence in journalism as well as promoting investigative research. Special research by German and foreign journalists was documented on a regular basis. According to media data, Message had a print run of 3,000 copies. The magazine was originally published by UVK Verlagsgesellschaft, then a few issues by Kress-Verlag and then by the Gesellschaft für Medienentwicklung.

Each issue was accompanied by a so-called "podium", which usually documented media and journalist conferences.

Scientists such as Siegfried Weischenberg (Hamburg) and Wolfgang R. Langenbucher (Emeritus Professor for Journalism and Communication Science at the University of Vienna) and editors-in-chief such as Hans Werner Kilz (Süddeutsche Zeitung) and Peter-Matthias Gaede (Geo) sat on the magazine's advisory board .

attitude

At the end of 2014, the editors announced that they would only be offering the magazine digitally as an e-paper or app . The reason is the declining number of subscribers to the magazine. In February 2015, the complete discontinuation of the magazine was announced because there were not enough interested parties for a digital edition.
