The fair tower

The Leipzig Trade Fair Tower is the landmark of the new Leipzig Trade Fair in Leipzig . The tower, built in 1995, is 85 meters high and bears the double M on its upper part , the logo of the Leipziger Messe.

construction

The rope-braced tower consists of a lattice mast construction that holds four tubes in the vertical. The four pipes serve the boilers of the exhibition building and the emergency power generators as chimneys. The design of the exhibition tower was made by Schlaich, Bergermann and Partner , while Gerkan, Marg and Partner are responsible as architects .

A webcam has been installed on the top of the exhibition tower since February 1, 2004 , which Internet users can control themselves for up to 40 seconds.

history

In some cases, older construction projects for the old Leipzig Exhibition Center are also referred to as Leipzig Exhibition Towers. Among other plans that were more realistic in scope, a “tower” was designed by Emanuel Haimovici, Richard Tschammer and Arno Caroli. The building should be 108 meters high and offer 30 exhibition floors. In 1919 the preliminary draft was submitted to the Leipzig city council , together with an application for a building site near the city center. Like other major projects for the Leipziger Messe, however, the design was ultimately not implemented.
