The brass yard is a former brass factory in operation from 1562 to 1626 in the Bad Harzburg district of Bündheim in the district of Goslar , Lower Saxony .

construction

In order to be able to drive the bellows and water wheels, which were used to drive the melting furnaces, the hammer mill and the wire mill, a system of five reservoirs was created. The Brunswick lion was used as a symbol of the brass works .

history

The brass works was founded in 1562 by Duke Heinrich the Younger and after 64 years of operation it was destroyed in the Thirty Years' War .

restoration

In the 1980s there were plans to upgrade the area around the market square to a green area with a fountain. The town caretaker at the time, Hans Schmidt, came up with the idea of placing the fountain under the motto “brass hut”, as he had already dealt intensively with the company's history. The Goslar sculptor Ursula Bacmeister was commissioned with the execution. The fountain was inaugurated on May 19, 1982. In total, the costs amounted to 56,000 DM for the well system and 136,000 DM for the remaining systems.

The five basins of the fountain symbolize the five reservoirs and the pouring onto the pouring stones, which are made clear by the brass pourer.
