Mestre Marcelo

Mestre Marcelo (* 18 August 1972 as Marcelo Anderson Cândido in Ribeirão Preto , São Paulo , Brazil ) is a Brazilian Capoeira -Master.

Life

At the age of nine, Mestre Marcelo began to train Capoeira in Riberão Preto, São Paulo, Brazil, with Mestre Euclides, Oripim. After his brother José Mario Cândido, Mestre Fumaça, returned to his hometown, Mestre Marcelo switched to his brother to train Capoeira. In 1992 Mestre Marcelo received the degree of teacher (professor) in Capoeira. A year later, Mestre Marcelo became a member of the recently founded national capoeira association Confederação Brasileira de Capoeira (CBC) in order to make capoeira a national sport. In 1997 he was officially graduated from Mestre Fumaça and the CBC to Contra-Mestre, in 2005 to Master (Mestre).

Mestre Marcelo founded the Capoeira group Expressão Paulista de Capoeira in 1992 . From 1994 to 1999 he worked as a capoeira teacher at the Liceu Albert Sabin private school in Riberão Preto, at the Carlos Chargas high school and at the University of Barão de Mauá. In the period from 1995 to 2000 Mestre Marcelo was five times Brazilian champion in the Brazilian Capoeira competition in the lightweight class. In 1996 he was named the best athlete of the year by the Brazilian Olympic Committee (COB). Mestre Marcelo has lived and worked in Hamburg since 2000 .
