Metafile
Metafile is a general term used to classify file formats that can store multiple data types. These usually include graphic formats .
The term metafile was first used in 1979 by the Graphics Standards Planning Committee for a vector graphics format.
Metafiles can represent a combination of vector graphics and raster data ( raster graphics or pixel graphics ) and font data. These are used, for example, in the following file formats:
- ( PICT ) Macintosh PICT resource, replaced by PDF in Mac OS X
- (WMF) Windows Metafile = (EMF) Windows Enhanced Metafile
- (EPS) Encapsulated PostScript
- (CGM) Computer Graphics Metafile
- (PDF) Portable Document Format
- (CDR) Corel Draw File
- ( CMX ) Corel Metafile Exchange
- (SVG) Scalable Vector Graphics
- (WPG) Word Perfect Graphics
- (RTF) Rich Text Format
