The name Metalit for metal catalysts has been a registered trademark of the Emitec company in Lohmar near Cologne since 1988 . Since it was founded in 1986 as a subsidiary of the British automotive supplier GKN and Siemens , metal catalytic converters have been used for all new and further developments.

The main characteristics (mostly patent-protected) of the Metalit -metal-catalysts are the S-shaped (standard) or the SM-winding (modified) as well as the connection technology ( brazing ) of the individual metal foil layers (depending on the version only 0.03 mm thin) with each other and along with the metal jacket.

The Metalit metal catalysts are used in vehicle construction ( automobiles , two-wheelers, commercial vehicles) as well as in the industrial sector (chemical and power plants) and even in products for end users (leaf blowers, saws and trimmers).

In vehicle construction, Metalit metal catalysts are used by all well-known automobile, two-wheeler and commercial vehicle manufacturers, both for high-performance vehicles and for mass-produced models. There are Metalit metal catalysts for gasoline and diesel engines. The most recent development are so-called fine dust metalite catalysts, which separate and burn the fine and finest soot particles from diesel engines according to the wall flow / bypass flow principle.
