Continental Emitec is an automotive supplier from Lohmar ( North Rhine-Westphalia ) that produces metal catalytic converters and metal particle filters.

Continental Emitec was founded in 1986 as a joint venture between the British GKN plc and Siemens , both of which have a 50% stake in it. The Continental AG has thus acquired after the takeover of Siemens' automotive division's 50% stake in Emitec GmbH. With effect from July 31, 2014, Continental AG took over the shares in GKN and incorporated it into the Powertrain division as a 100% subsidiary . Together with the Powertrain Fuel Supply division, Emitec will form the new Fuel & Exhaust Management division in the future. Markus Distelhoff, as the previous head of the Fuel Supply business unit, is now head of the newly formed Fuel & Exhaust Management business unit. The managing directors of Continental Emitec are Rolf Brück and Martin Kohn.

Continental Emitec is a full-range supplier in the field of exhaust products for cars, commercial vehicles, two-wheelers, non-road vehicles (construction machinery, industrial trucks such as forklifts, agricultural and forestry vehicles, rail vehicles), ships and stationary systems (power plants, power generators, etc.). So u. a. Metal catalytic converters manufactured for gasoline and diesel engines, particle filters for diesel engines and the new lean-burn gasoline engines (Lambda> 1), nitrogen oxide adsorbers, EGR catalytic converters (EGR - exhaust gas recirculation); Sensor catalytic converters (catalytic converters with an integrated lambda sensor). Due to the recent and possible future tightening of the exhaust gas limits with regard to soot particle and nitrogen oxide emissions, Continental Emitec has developed complete SCR systems (selective catalytic reduction of nitrogen dioxide ), especially for diesel engines. In addition, an SCR system with an integrated particle filter is produced, which is marketed by Continental Emitec under the acronym SCRi.

In addition to the headquarters and main plant in Lohmar near Bonn, where special products are manufactured, the company has a production plant in Thuringia near Eisenach ( Hörselberg-Hainich ), where large-scale products (several million metal catalysts and metal particle filters per year) are manufactured. In addition, there are other production sites u. a. in Fountain Inn, South Carolina ( USA ), in Pune ( India ) and in Faulquemont ( France ). Metal catalytic converters for two-wheelers are mainly produced at the Pune plant.

After total investments of more than eight million euros in previous years, the world's most powerful roller dynamometer was inaugurated in the Hörselberg-Hainich plant in the presence of the then Thuringian Prime Minister Dieter Althaus . This two-axle driven test bench is capable of testing large buses and heavy commercial vehicles / construction machinery as well as all-wheel drive vehicles with a total output of up to 600 kW (816 PS) (450 kW (610 PS) and a maximum of 20 tons per axle). The maximum test speed on this roller dynamometer is 160 km / h. With a floor area of 1,600 square meters and a height of 10 meters, the hall is suitable for operating vehicles in closed rooms and can therefore be used all year round.
