Metal technician

The metal technician has been a modular apprenticeship in Austria since June 1, 2011 . The training can last up to 3.5 or 4 years.

Only certain combinations of main and basic modules are possible. The final apprenticeship examination is divided into a theoretical and practical examination. The theoretical examination is not required if the candidate has successfully completed the last class of the vocational school .

The training is divided into two or three modules:

Basic module 1.5 years or main module 2 years Mechanical engineering Vehicle construction technology Metal construction and sheet metal technology Steel construction technology Forging technology Tool making technology Welding technology Machining technology

Special module 0.5 years (optional) Automation technology Design engineering Construction technology Process and manufacturing technology

history

Due to the numerous main modules, the profession replaces numerous predecessors such as

• Sheet metal worker
• Vehicle manufacturer
• locksmith
• Blacksmith (except coppersmith , farrier and some other special blacksmithing techniques)
• Locksmith and steel locksmith
• Mechanical engineering technician (with again as predecessor shop fitter and machine fitter )
