Metatarsalgia
Metatarsalgia (from the Greek metatarsus "metatarsus" and algos "pain") is the collective medical term for pain that often occurs in the metatarsus , as far as the second to fifth ray (toes and associated metatarsal bones ) is affected. The diseases of the first ray are listed separately.
In the differential diagnosis, a distinction must be made between primary metatarsalgias with a localized cause in the metatarsal and secondary metatarsalgias in systemic diseases (e.g. rheumatism , gout , arterial circulatory disorders ).
The primary metatarsalgias can be further classified based on the affected structures:
-
Soft tissues
- Nerve changes ( Morton's neuralgia )
- Overload of the small ligaments (ligaments)
- Tendonitis (tendovaginitis)
- Inflammation of the connective tissue plate (fasciitis) or bursa (bursitis)
- Soft tissue tumors ( sarcomas )
-
bone
- after healed injuries (post-traumatic)
- Köhler's disease type II (aseptic bone necrosis)
- chronic periosteum inflammation
- Bone tumors
-
Joints
- arthrosis
- Misalignments
- Overloads
The splayfoot deformity clearly dominates in practice and can trigger various disorders in bones, joints and soft tissues.
