The Gas-Glühlicht-Actien-Gesellschaft “Meteor” was founded in 1894 by the German named Kroll, formerly Kroll, Berger & Co. and was based in Berlin-Mitte , Brunnenstrasse  25. Kroll was an inventor who patented his gas lamps and became the market leader within a few years. The general agency was located in Frankfurt (Main) , further sales offices in Mainz , Wiesbaden and Bad Kreuznach . One of the special advantages of its designs was the advanced heat protection, which prevented the storage container from overheating and catching fire.

On October 4, 1895, a full-page advertisement for Meteor “Against the unfair behavior of the Auer Society” appeared in the “Third Morning Gazette of the Frankfurter Zeitung”, which, according to the small-line text, had itself committed massive patent infringements on Meteor AG, but obviously through own advertisements tried to damage the reputation of Meteor AG considerably. In the lower third of the advertisement, a model of the Auer Society was compared with its own make and it was stated: “The Auer Society seeks to outwit the public by presenting the apparatus as unsurpassed, and offering them to the public at a price that has real value around 500 pCt. exceeds. ”The rivalry between the two companies suggests a business crime.

The company did not last long, as it was said in “Known and Unknown about the Lamp” from 1911: “… Petroleum incandescent lamp, which was put on the market by the long-gone Continental gas incandescent light company Meteor about 15 years ago , ... "
