Meth mouth
As meth mouth ( Engl. Meth mouth ) is colloquially an advanced stage of dental caries resulting from the strong use of the drug methamphetamine called ( "crystal meth"). The heavy (or abusive) consumption of other stimulants such as amphetamines , cocaine or methylphenidate also have similar consequences . According to the American Dental Association , a meth mouth is the result of a combination of several symptoms:
- decreased saliva production, a dry mouth a result
- poor oral hygiene
- increased consumption of sugary drinks
- frequent grinding of teeth ( trismus and bruxism ) having a damage and wear of the tooth enamel entails
In addition, according to the Pennsylvania Dental Association, it is believed that some ingredients in the drug can attack the tooth directly and thus damage it. However, meth-mouth diagnoses have already been made after drug abuse of pharmaceutical methamphetamine . However, it is likely that these are also triggered by classic symptoms of meth consumption.
