Methodist Church in Kenya

The Methodist Church in Kenya is a Christian Church in the Methodist tradition in Kenya .

It was founded by the Methodist Church of Great Britain and became an independent church in 1967, a few years after Kenya gained independence.

Its first bishop was Lawi Imathiu . Under his leadership, the Church grew from 8,000 members in 1970 to 225,000 in 2000 and is now spread across the country. Missions were established in Tanzania and Uganda.

The current bishop is Stephen Kanyaru M'Impwii.

The Church founded a school in Kenya in 1864 and now run primary schools across the country. Since 1997 she has maintained the Kenya Methodist University, which already has 1000 students. She is also active in the health sector, e.g. B. with the Methodist Hospital in Maua , and in rural development.

The Methodist Church in Kenya is a member of the World Council of Churches (WCC), the All Africa Conference of Churches (AACC) and the World Council of Methodist Churches .
