Mette Knudsen

Mette Louise Knudsen (born October 2, 1943 in Copenhagen ) is a Danish editor , camerawoman , film director and screenwriter . Many of her documentaries describe the situation of women in the 20th and 21st centuries.

Life

Mette Knudsen is the daughter of Niels Knudsen (1918–1992) and Elise Nørgård (* 1914). In 1962 she graduated from high school and trained as a journalist. In Paris she worked for the Danish Embassy for a few years and worked as a mannequin for fashion houses. After her return to Denmark she worked for the Danish Film Institute ( Det Danske Filminstitut ). She studied French and film studies at the University of Copenhagen and completed an MA . For the film Kære Irene (1971) she wrote the script together with Christian Braad Thomsen and took on the title role. In 1973 she was editor of the anthology Politisk filmkunst together with Brad Thomsen and Jan Aghed . From 1973 to 1975 she worked as an editor for the socialist magazine Politisk Revy . For the film Ta 'det som en mand, frue (1975, Take it like a man, Madame!) She teamed up with Elisabeth Rygård and Li Vilstrup to form the collective “Red Sister” ( Røde Søster ). From 1975 to 1978 she was a film consultant at Danmarks Radio . There she was released because she campaigned to convey a more realistic image of women than is usual on television. In 1982 their son was born; The result was the short film Lasse Lasse lille (1993), in which she illuminates the problems of working single women. She was program director at Statens Filmcentral from 1986 to 1990.
