The Carretera Federal 1 , also known as Carretera Transpeninsular is a 1711 km long highway on the peninsula Baja California , completed in 1973. They usually runs two lanes of the northern border city of Tijuana in the Mexican state of Baja California (BC) up to Cabo San Lucas on the southern tip of the state of Baja California Sur . On the US side from San Ysidro in California , it runs as Interstate 5 along the west coast north to Canada .
