Mian Saqib Nisar (born January 18, 1954 in Lahore ) ( Urdu : میاں ثاقب نثار) was the 25th Supreme Justice of Pakistan from 2016 to 2019.He was elevated to the Supreme Court under the administration of martial law.

Life

Mian Saqib Nisar belongs to the Arain tribe. He graduated from Punjab University in 1980 with a law degree. As a student, Nisar was the representative of Pakistan at the International Youth Leadership Conference in Tripoli , Libya in 1973. After his studies, Nisar worked in 1980 for the District Council. He followed a call to the Punjab Bar Council in 1982 and worked as a lawyer at the Lahore High Court. He then followed a call to the Supreme Court Bar Association in Islamabad . Saqib Nisar became general secretary of the Lahore High Court in 1991 Saqib Nisar became a Fellow of the Supreme Court Bar Association in 1992 and worked as a lawyer, where he served until 1998. In 1997, Saqib was hired as a secretary in the administration of the Punjab Ministry of Justice. This office was highly regarded in Pakistan. Nisar's appointment was unique in Pakistan's history as he previously worked in the Bar Association. In May 1998, Nisar became a judge at Lahore High Court. His nomination was quickly confirmed by the President and Prime Minister. In 2000, Nisar was given the choice of resigning as a judge on the Lahore High Court or taking a new oath of office. Nisar was then able to continue working as a judge.

Saqib Nisar was scheduled to serve as a judge at the Pakistani Supreme Court in 2010 . The appeal was rejected by President Asif Ali Zardari , despite the recommendation of Iftikhar Muhammad Chaudhry . Saqib Nisar was finally sworn in as a judge at the Pakistani Supreme Court in February 2010. The most significant case that Saqib Nisar handled was the case of the Christian Asia Bibi , who was charged with blasphemy . Saqib Nisar was the chief judge in charge of the case and acquitted it.
