Michael-Jörg Oesterle

Michael-Jörg Oesterle (born January 1, 1960 in Stuttgart ) is Professor of Business Administration (ABWL), in particular international and strategic management, at the University of Stuttgart .

biography

After graduating from the Zeppelin Gymnasium in Stuttgart and completing military service, Oesterle studied economics at the University of Hohenheim from 1980 to the end of 1985 . In 1992 he presented his dissertation on the subject of handling coordination problems in east-west joint ventures and was awarded a Dr. oec. PhD . As an assistant to Klaus Macharzina , he took on a substitute role at his chair in 1994 during his university presidency. In 1999 he completed his habilitation in business administration at the University of Hohenheim.

In the spring of 2000 he was offered the chair for general business administration , especially international management, at the University of Bremen . Oesterle held this chair until October 2008, and from July 2003 to July 2005 he was also Dean of the Faculty of Economics at the University of Bremen.

In 2008 Oesterle received offers to the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and the University of Hamburg , where he accepted the chair for business administration, in particular organization, human resources and corporate management at the Johannes Gutenberg University Mainz and represented it until September 2011. He accepted the call to the University of Stuttgart that he received in the spring of 2011 and started working there in October 2011.

In other functions, he has been the editor of the English-language trade journal Management International Review since 2006 together with Joachim Wolf . From May 2002 to June 2004 he held the position of commissioner for young academics in the International Management Commission in the Association of University Lecturers for Business Administration. He was then chairman of the International Management Commission until June 2006.

From 2002 to 2006 Oesterle was also a founding member of the Bremen Initiative Group for Corporate Governance in SMEs. After all, he has also been teaching regularly at foreign universities since 1995. a. since 1995 at the Alcalá University in Madrid .

From 2005 to 2011 he was also the main lecturer in the intensive SME course at the University of St. Gallen . In March 2009 he was appointed a member of the founding supervisory board of the Baden-Württemberg Cooperative State University for a period of two years . Oesterle has been Dean of the Faculty of Business and Social Sciences at the University of Stuttgart since April 2016.
