Michael Baxte

Michael Baxte (born January 27, 1890 in Staroselie , then Russia , † 1972 ) was an American painter.

Baxte's family came to the United States from Russia , where he grew up in the Mississippi Valley. After studying music in Paris , he returned to New York City , where he began painting. He married a French painter and exhibited his pictures for the first time. In the 1930s he lived in France again, was one of the artists at the École de Paris and exhibited at the Salon d'Automne , among others . He took part in the art competitions during the Olympic Games in Berlin for the United States. With the outbreak of World War II , he went to Mexico , where he lived and worked until his death. His pictures mainly include portraits, landscapes and still lifes.
