Michael Behrendt (journalist)

Michael Behrendt (* 1969 ) is the chief reporter for the Berliner Morgenpost and heads the police department. As a journalist, he works on the areas of pedophilia , child trafficking and rockers . Since the age of 18 he has been writing a. a. for BILD Berlin and BZ As a war correspondent, he traveled to Bosnia , Afghanistan , Rwanda and Lebanon, among others . He lives with his family near Berlin.

In 2011 Michael Behrendt and Jens Anker, Joachim Fahrun, Uta Keseling, Anne Klesse and Daniel Müller ( Berliner Morgenpost ) received the 1st prize of the Guardian Prize of the German daily press ( foundation "Freedom of the Press" ). The authors "were the first to address the sexual abuse processes at the Canisius College in Berlin and thus triggered a wave of further revelations nationwide".

In 2012 there was initial suspicion of bribery: Michael Behrendt is said to have given an officer at the Berlin State Criminal Police Office (LKA) money to get tips early on. A case of “suspected bribery” against Michael Behrendt and “bribery” against the police officer was initiated. The apartments were searched, as well as the journalist's workstation in the editorial office and the official's office. The proceedings were closed in October 2014.

In addition to his work as an investigative reporter , Behrendt is also active as an author of crime literature. His book Steinefresser was published in November 2014 and belongs to the hardcore thriller genre. The hero of the story, which is to become the first part of a trilogy, is the SEK policeman Wolf Schacht . According to his own statements, Behrendt processed numerous unsolved cases and incidents in the novel, which he researched through his contacts with the police but was unable to publish.

Also in 2014, Piper Verlag published his book Covered up, betrayed, abandoned - a police reporter reveals his work as a journalist.
