Michael Bergunder

Michael Bergunder (* 1966 in Halle (Saale) ) is a German religious scholar and intercultural theologian .

Life

Bergunder studied in Halle, Leipzig, Erfurt and Hamburg, received his doctorate in 1993 at the theological faculty in Halle and completed his habilitation there in 1998. His research interests include the Pentecostal-charismatic movements , esotericism and new religious movements as well as the history of religion in South India. He is a professor at Heidelberg University .

Since 2007 he has been a member of the DFG - Cluster of Excellence “Asia and Europe in a Global Context” at Heidelberg University . Bergunder is co-editor of the “New Hallesche Reports. Sources and studies on the past and present of South India ”.
