Michael Betzner-Brandt
Michael Betzner-Brandt (* 1972 in Adenau / Eifel) is a German choir director , song animator, author , teacher , workshop leader and silent film pianist .
life and work
Michael Betzner-Brandt studied church music ( Gregoriushaus Aachen ), school music ( Hochschule für Musik Detmold ), philosophy ( Uni Bielefeld , TU Berlin ) and choral conducting ( UdK Berlin , Uwe Gronostay ).
In 2003 he began teaching choir conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts. Concert tours have led to France (Paris and Caen, 2007), the USA (Washington and New York, 2008 and again New York 2012), to China (Beijing, Nanjing, Shanghai, 2009) and to Indonesia (Jakarta, Bandung, Yogyakarta, 2011). On June 10, 2014, he was on the forest stage with the Rolling Stones , who had booked Fabulous Fridays for a song on the occasion of their tour 14onFire.
From 2003 to 2016 he was a lecturer in choral conducting at the Berlin University of the Arts . In autumn 2003 he founded Fabulous Fridays - the JazzPopChor of the University of the Arts, initially as a semester choir. Since 2010, the Fabulous Fridays have only been on the road as a selection ensemble.
In April 2010, he also founded High Fossility - RockPopChor 60+. With this choir for people over 60, he reinterprets classics from pop history.
In October 2015, on the initiative of the Association Leadership Berlin - Network Responsibility, he and Bastian Holze founded the encounter choir, in which Berliners sing with refugees.
Michael Betzner-Brandt is considered one of the creative minds on the current choral scene. His concept CHOIR CREATIVE - singing without notes made him internationally known in the 2000s. In September 2011 his book CHOR KREATIV - Singing without sheet music was published by Bosse-Verlag. Michael Betzner-Brandt gives courses and workshops on the subject of "Singing without Notes", and others. a. on chor.com and he is the inventor of the "I-can't-sing-choir".
Since February 2016, he has been teaching as part of his legal clerkship at the Ernst-Abbe-Gymnasium in Neukölln.

- 1st prize at the Berlin Choir Competition 2009 with the Fabulous Fridays
- 2nd prize and a special prize at the German Choir Competition 2010 in Dortmund with the Fabulous Fridays
- Gold medals in the pop and jazz categories and a silver medal in the folklore category at the 2014 World Choir Games
- In June 2016 he received the Mendelssohn Sibling Medal from the Berlin Choir Association for his services to Berlin choir life.
