Michael Bockemuehl
Michael Bockemühl (born February 21, 1943 in Dresden ; † December 23, 2009 ) was a German art scholar . He held the chair for art history, aesthetics and art education at the Faculty for Cultural Reflection, the private University of Witten / Herdecke .
Career
Bockemühl studied art history , philosophy and church history in Munich and Bochum . From 1967 to 1971 he developed a self-organized form of student study. The experience gained was incorporated into the conception of the Studium fundamentale at the University of Witten / Herdecke. In 1979 Bockemühl received the annual prize from the Ruhr University in Bochum for his dissertation on Rembrandt's late work . He received a grant from the German Research Foundation (DFG) for his habilitation . In 1984 Bockemühl completed his habilitation at the Ruhr University in Bochum and then became a private lecturer in Middle and New Art History. He was appointed to the chair for art history, aesthetics and art education at the University of Witten / Herdecke in 1990. From 1994 to 1998 he was dean of the faculty for fundamental studies . This was followed by visiting professorships from 1994 to 2000 at the Faculty of Social and Economic Sciences at Innsbruck University, at the Pedagogical Faculty at Bielefeld University and at the Faculty of Economics at Stockholm University. Since October 2007, Bockemühl has been dean of the faculty again.
Research priorities
Bockemühl's main research interests were painting in the 19th and 20th centuries, but he also published studies on the artistic development of Michelangelo, Rembrandt and William Turner. The reflection of the consciousness bases of artistic and non-artistic experience, the connection between image, music and movement as well as basic questions about aesthetic perception and the design of social and economic connections. He succeeded in combining modern science and anthroposophy through active artistic perception.
Jawlensky exhibition in Essen
In 1998, the Folkwang Museum in Essen organized an exhibition co-initiated by Bockemühl and a public expert symposium entitled: Jawlensky - The eye is the judge - the rediscovered watercolors . At this symposium it was possible to prove that the “recovered” watercolors were forgeries.
