Michael C. Burda

Michael Christopher Burda (born April 4, 1959 in New Orleans ) is an American macroeconomist and professor at the Humboldt University of Berlin . In addition, Burda was chairman of the Verein für Socialpolitik from 2011 to December 2014 .

Life

Burda studied economics at Harvard College and in Göttingen , and received his doctorate in 1987 from Harvard University . Since 1993 he has been director at the Institute for Economic Theory II and since 2007 visiting professor at the European School of Management and Technology . He taught at Berkeley and at INSEAD . He is a Research Fellow of the Center for Economic Policy Research (CEPR), the Institute for the Future of Work (IZA) and a Fellow of the European Economic Association . His research deals primarily with topics of macroeconomics , labor market economics, and European integration.

In 2012 Michael Burda and Charles Wyplosz published the 6th edition of the widely used textbook Macroeconomics: A European Text , Oxford University Press, which has been translated into twelve languages, including German. Burda calls for the abolition of the national central banks in the euro zone .
