Charles Wyplosz

Charles André Wyplosz (born September 5, 1947 in Vichy , Département Allier ) is a French economist and university professor .

Career, research and teaching

Wyplosz studied engineering and then statistics at the École Centrale Paris until 1970 before obtaining a Ph.D. Went to Harvard University with a degree in economics . After graduating in 1978, he moved to Insead , where he was later appointed full professor. In 1986 he went to the École des Hautes Études en Sciences Sociales , in 1995 he followed a call from the University of Geneva and became professor of economics at the University Institute for International Studies and Development .

At the center of Wyplosz's work are macroeconomics , financial policy and economic transition, with a focus on the European Union and the transformation of the economic system in formerly communist countries. In the course of the financial crisis from 2007 , in particular , he also concentrated on dealing with financial crises and European currency integration.

Wyplosz has worked as a consultant for the European Commission , the International Monetary Fund , the World Bank and the United Nations , among others .

He is a Knight of the Legion of Honor .
