Michael Chinery

Michael Chinery , FLS , (born June 5, 1938 in London , England ) is a British naturalist and non-fiction author .

Life

Chinery is the son of Oliver John and Dorothy Chinery, née Loveday. His father was a grocer, his mother a seamstress. He graduated from the Royal Grammar School in High Wycombe . 1960 graduated Chinery for Master of Arts degree in Natural Sciences and Anthropology at Jesus College of the University of Cambridge . In September 1963 he married the secretary Jillian Ann Gray. This marriage resulted in a son and twin daughters.

Chinery has been working as a freelance writer since 1965 . He published numerous animal and nature books for young people and adults, as well as television reports and nature documentaries for the BBC's radio program . Chinery is a member of the Linnean Society of London and the British Plant Gall Society, where he publishes the journal Cecidology every six months .

Awards

In 1973 the work Animal Communities received the youth book award of the Austrian Federal Ministry for Education, Science and Culture . In 1977 the book A Field Guide to the Insects of Britain and Northern Europe (translated into German as Insects of Central Europe ) was awarded the Prix ​​Jean Dollfus of the Société entomologique de France .
