Michael Doneus

Michael Doneus (* 1967 in Haslach an der Mühl ) is an Austrian prehistorian and aerial photograph archaeologist .

Life

Doneus studied prehistory and early history as well as classical archeology at the University of Vienna from 1986 to 1992 and attended selected lectures at the institutes for photogrammetry and remote sensing and geodesy of the Vienna University of Technology . After graduating as Dr. phil. 1999 in Vienna and his habilitation there in 2009 he became professor for prehistory and early history, environmental and landscape archeology there. Since 2010 he has been Vice Director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection and since 2011 Vice President of CIPA (ICOMOS & ISPRS Committee for Documentation of Cultural Heritage).

Doneus' research focuses on settlement, environmental and landscape archeology , archaeological prospecting , geographical information systems and spatial databases in archeology, photogrammetric method development in archeology, digital documentation of cultural heritage and Neolithic and circular ditch research .

  • 2007: Tewkesbury Fellowship at the University of Melbourne, Faculty of Engineering, Australia.
