Wolfgang Neubauer

Wolfgang Neubauer (born September 14, 1963 in Altstätten , Switzerland ) is an Austrian archaeologist .

life and work

Starting in 1984, Neubauer studied prehistory , archaeometry and mathematics at the University of Vienna and from 1985 mathematics and computer science at the Technical University of Vienna . In 1993 he received his master's degree, in 2000 his doctorate and in 2008 his habilitation at the University of Vienna. His specialty is archaeological prospecting . Neubauer has been an associate professor at the University of Vienna since 2009 , and since 2010 he has also been the director of the Ludwig Boltzmann Institute for Archaeological Prospection and Virtual Archeology .

In 2005 he received the Lower Austrian State Exhibition Medal , and in 2015 he was named Austrian Scientist of the Year by the Club of Education and Science Journalists . He has been a member of the Austrian Academy of Sciences since 2017 .
