Michael Esterl

Michael Esterl (born June 28, 1977 in Tamsweg ) has been Secretary General and Head of Cabinet at the Austrian Federal Ministry for Digitization and Business Location since 2018 .

Career

Esterl graduated from the HBLA Raumberg-Gumpenstein in 1997 and then did military service in the armed forces. Until 2003 he studied agricultural economics at the University of Natural Resources and Life Sciences in Vienna and graduated with honors as a graduate engineer.

From 2006 to 2010 was ÖVP - club secretary in the National Council for the Environment, Agriculture and Consumer Protection before the end of 2013 under club chairman Karlheinz Kopf worked as office manager.

He then moved to the Federal Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry, Environment and Water Management as head of Andrä Rupprechter's cabinet . After the inauguration of the Federal Government Kurz I , he first became head of cabinet under Economics Minister Margarete Schramböck . He was also Secretary General from March 2018 to May 2019 and has held this position again since January 2020.

From 2014 to 2018 he was also a member of the Supervisory Board of the Austrian Federal Forests .

Others

Together with his brother, Esterl runs a small hydropower plant on their farm in Styria through the joint Esterl Energie GmbH .
