Michael Fay

Sir Humphrey Michael Gerard Fay (* 1949 in Auckland , New Zealand ) is a New Zealand banker and entrepreneur .

Life

After attending school, Fay studied at Victoria University of Wellington and later founded the investment bank Fay Richwhite with David Richwhite . His fortune also enabled him to work as a patron in the sports and cultural sectors.

Fay was not only chairman of the Australian- New Zealand Bicentennial Committee in 1988 , but also headed the New Zealand challenger team three times at the America's Cup in 1987, 1988 and 1992. Among other things, he financed the KZ1 , the challenger ship in 1988, which, however, went against the US American yacht Stars & Stripes lost. In 1995, his bank began providing financial support to the Samoan national rugby union team .

For his services he was in 1990 as a Knight Bachelor in the personal nobility collected and leads since then the title "Sir". In 2002 he was inducted into the America's Cup Hall of Fame .

Fay, who lives in Switzerland , also owns Great Mercury Island , an island in the Mercury Islands that houses two of his luxury properties that are for rent.
