America's Cup Hall of Fame
Halsey C. Herreshoff, President of the Herreshoff Marine Museum and four-time America's Cup winner, founded the America's Cup Hall of Fame in 1992 , a list of the great personalities of the America's Cup who have distinguished themselves throughout the history of the Cup as constructors , designers , sailmakers , Skipper , tactician (afterguard), sail trimmer , team member, regatta organizer, yacht owner or yacht editor have particularly distinguished themselves.
The Hall of Fame is housed in a historic building on the site of the former shipyard of Nathanael Herreshoff in Bristol (Rhode Iceland) . At this shipyard, Herreshoff built a total of eight AC yachts for the American teams between 1893 and 1934 . Every year, this list of famous sailing enthusiasts (inductees) is expanded by a committee of 22 to include up to four new members, and each newly added name is celebrated in the media in October of that year at a festive banquet sponsored by Rolex .
In the Hall of Fames Museum, a department of the Herreshoff Marine Museum, plaques for the members (inductees) are presented and temporary exhibitions from all areas of the America's Cup are shown. The museum's library holds the largest collection of manuscripts, records, and books related to the America's Cup and the history of sailing.
