Brad Butterworth
Bradley William Butterworth , OBE (* 1959 in Te Awamutu ) is a New Zealand regatta sailor .
Butterworth is considered one of the best sailing tacticians in the world and has won the America's Cup four times . He won on the yacht Black Magic (1995, 2000) for New Zealand and on the yacht Alinghi (2003, 2007) for Switzerland.
Butterworth assisted as tactician Chris Dickson in New Zealand's first America's Cup challenge in 1986-1987 and Russell Coutts in 1992 in the regattas for the Louis Vuitton Cup .
He himself humbly described his own role as a tactician (afterguard) as follows: “My job is to observe the other boats when racing. I have to decide where we ought to be, in which direction we ought to go, given the wind and the adversary's position. "
After Russell Coutts left the Alinghi team , he took on the position of skipper in the team in 2004 .
