Michael G. Vickerts

Michael George Vickers (born April 27, 1953 in Burbank , California ) is an American defense expert. President Barack Obama named him Under Secretary of Defense for Intelligence (USD-I) in the United States Department of Defense in 2010 .

As USD-I, Vickers was the senior civil military intelligence officer . Vickers previously served as the United States Assistant Secretary of Defense, responsible for special operations and low-intensity conflict .

Life

After high school, Vickers attended Los Angeles Pierce College , where he wanted to play football. Vickers later graduated with Honors from the University of Alabama and completed the Wharton Business School's MBA program . In 2011 he received a Ph.D. from Eliot A. Cohen at the Paul H. Nitze School of Advanced International Studies (SAIS). in International Relations / Strategic Studies. From 1973 to 1986, Vickers served as a sergeant in the Army Special Forces . In the mid-1980s, Vickers was involved in Operation Cyclone , the CIA's program to arm the Islamist mujahideen in the war in Afghanistan .
