Michael Garrison (born November 28, 1956 in Roseburg , Oregon , USA ; † March 24, 2004 in Bend , Oregon, USA) was an American musician. His style was electronic music .

At the age of 13 he began to compose, although music was not born in his cradle, his father was a banker, his mother a housewife. In the mid-1970s, he began studying music in Idaho . Against the background of the research missions of the space probes Voyager 1 and Voyager 2 , which were beginning at this time , he composed his first album In the Regions of Sunreturn in 1979 , the CD version of which, released in 1991, was given the addition ... and Beyond due to slight changes in the track list . The album was released by Windspell Music (later Garrisongs ). In order to boost sales, which were initially meager, Garrison personally drove to music stores on the west coast of the USA to publicize his product. In 1980, the BMG (Bertelsmann Musik Gruppe) offered him to publish his album in Europe. The LP quickly became a success among insiders . Garrison gained additional prominence in German-speaking countries when the listeners of the WDR broadcast Schwimmern selected his Track Departure as the new title melody. On August 13, 1994 Michael Garrison gave his first concert in Germany in the Stollwerck community center in Cologne . Several smaller appearances followed, including in the Eifel , organized by his friend Jörg Strawe . Strawe has taken over the German distribution of all Garrison albums with his label CUE Records . After his last album, Brave New Worlds (1999), things had calmed down a bit, Michael Garrison died on March 24, 2004 in Bend, Oregon.
From an early age Garrison suffered from depression , which he tried to compensate with excessive alcohol consumption. He became an alcoholic and ultimately died of acute liver failure .
When Michael's brother Mark Garrison wanted to sell the entire studio equipment, Michael's friend Craig Padilla had the idea to record a new album with these instruments, on which many electronic musicians should reinterpret Michael Garrison's style in their own personal way.
A trademark of his albums are the cover motifs, always designed by Mountain Visions .
