Michael Peter Groß (born July 26, 1956 in Marl ) is a German politician ( SPD ) and has been a member of the German Bundestag since October 2009 .

Life

After completing secondary school, Michael Groß completed an apprenticeship as a surveying technician and at the same time obtained the technical college entrance qualification . After community service and studies, Groß initially worked as a qualified social worker in psychological counseling centers in Recklinghausen and Marl , later as a consultant at the Diakonisches Werk Westfalen as managing director of the Diakonisches Werk of the Steinfurt-Coesfeld-Borken church district. From 2005 to 2009 he was a division manager at the Arbeiterwohlfahrt in the Münsterland-Recklinghausen sub-district.

Groß has been a member of the SPD since 1978 . First he got involved with the Jusos . From 1997 to 2010 he was, with interruptions, chairman of the local association in Marl-Brassert . From 2002 to 2006 and from 2010 to today he is chairman of the city ​​association of the SPD in Marl , from 2004 to 2009 he was chairman of the Marl council group and chairman of the supervisory board of the new Marl construction company (NeuMa). From 2005 to 2012 he was also deputy chairman of the SPD district association Recklinghausen .

In the 2009 Bundestag elections he ran as a direct candidate in the Recklinghausen II constituency , won the direct mandate with 42.6% of the first votes and thus made it into the Bundestag . In 2013, Groß received 45.7% of the first votes. In 2017, Michael Groß took constituency 122 directly for the third time in a row and entered the 19th German Bundestag with 41.1% of the first votes.

Groß is chairman of the AWO parliamentary group of the SPD and spokesman for SPD members from the Ruhr area in the German Bundestag. Michael Groß was housing and construction policy spokesman for the SPD parliamentary group until December 31, 2017. In the 19th legislative period, he is a member of the budget committee and responsible for the budget of the Federal Ministry of Labor and Social Affairs. Groß is also a member of the Committee on Legal Affairs and Consumer Protection and is responsible for reporting on tenancy law, cooperative law and the law on residential property . Groß is also a full member of the Audit Committee and is responsible for the budget of the Federal Ministry of Transport and Digital Infrastructure. In the new electoral term he is also a member of the Elders' Council for Building and Space Matters. Michael Groß is also a deputy member of the Labor and Social Affairs Committee and the Petitions Committee.
