Michael Herty (born January 31, 1869 in Klein-Steinheim ; † 20th century ) was a German track cyclist .

Michael Herty was one of the pioneers of German cycling. In 1890 he competed in his first race in Aschaffenburg (still on the high-bike ), but initially had to cut back on his sporting ambitions because he worked in his parents' business. From 1893 he concentrated on cycling, as an amateur for a year. When it became known to the German Cyclists ' Association that he had accepted cash prizes, he was declared a professional . Thereupon Herty went to Italy to find enough opportunities to start and in 1895 he won two "Grand Prizes" in Rome . In 1897 he was German runner-up in the sprint behind Willy Arend . In total, he achieved 227 first, 156 second and 114 third places in cycling races.

In 1897 Herty ended his active cycling career, married, built a property in his hometown and a cycle track next to the house . He ran a prosperous shop and a bicycle shop and was a member of TFC Steinheim 1884 . In 1907 he built a restaurant with an event hall (the "Herty'sche Saal"), in which his brother Adam opened a cinema in 1912. After Adam Herty fell off Verdun in 1916 , Michael Herty closed the cinema again. After the end of the war in 1918, the hall served the returning teams as accommodation and the Hanau garrisons as a venue for their celebrations.
