Michael Karrer

Michael Karrer (* 1976 in Salzburg ) is an Austrian museum director, cultural manager , curator and publisher.

Life

After completing his degree in commercial science at the Johannes Kepler University Linz in 2000, Michael Karrer obtained a Master of Advanced Studies at the International Center of Culture and Management (ICCM) in Salzburg in 2002. Between 2003 and 2007 he worked as a lecturer in strategic management at the Johannes Kepler University Linz, the University of Salzburg and ICCM Salzburg. Between 2003 and 2011, Michael Karrer was the managing partner of Art Trading Corporation GmbH, the Weihergut Gallery , based in Salzburg. In the course of this he was the editor of 16 publications and published 85 graphic editions by well-known artists. In 2009, Michael Karrer was the founding director of the Nitsch Foundation in Vienna, which still represents the artist Hermann Nitsch and is dedicated to promoting his work. In the same year the Zeitfrei GesbR was founded; 2012 the establishment of the Center of Art and Management GmbH based in Salzburg. In 2012 he was appointed general manager of the nitsch museum in Mistelbach. In 2014 he initiated the Verein Gesamtkunstwerk Nitsch, for which in 2015 he edited the monograph "HERMANN NITSCH - The Gesamtkunstwerk des Orgien Mysterien Theater". In 2016 he curated the exhibition "Valentin Oman - Retrospective" at the Vienna Künstlerhaus. Further stations of this traveling exhibition were the MMKK Klagenfurt and the BOŽIDAR JAKAC ART MUSEUM in Slovenia. He holds several company investments and has been developing real estate projects since 2012. In 2018 he initiated the cultural project "Sculpture Park Hellbrunn", an annually changing contemporary art installation in the park area of ​​Hellbrunn Palace.

Michael Karrer is married and has two children. He lives in Salzburg and Vienna.
