Weihergut Gallery

The Weihergut Gallery is an art gallery in the city of Salzburg . It was founded by Siegfried Karrer in 1980 and led by him until 2018. It had an exhibition area of ​​400 m² in an episcopal estate ( Kunsthof Weihergut , Biberngasse in Morzg , management Michael Karrer ) and another 350 m² location in the central old town in Linzer Gasse .

After the takeover by Ulrike Dirmayer in summer 2018, the rooms were renovated and the program adapted.

Gallery from 1980 to 2018

The main focus of the gallery was on international and Austrian art, from classical modernism to contemporary art of the 20th and 21st centuries. In addition to the discovery of young Austrian artists, the company also dedicated itself to the exclusive care of the bequests of artists of the classical modern era. Printed editions by various national and international artists appeared regularly in the gallery's edition. By 2012, around 100 publications were self-published by the gallery.

The gallery has been a guest at trade fairs in Paris, Vienna, art austria , Salzburg, Düsseldorf, Frankfurt, Ghent and Los Angeles.

Under the direction of Siegfried Karrer, the gallery published exhibition catalogs of various sizes for almost all exhibitions. One of the most important publications is a catalog of works on the meaning of the cross in Arnulf Rainer's oeuvre .

Gallery since 2018

In 2018 the gallery space in Linzer Gasse was taken over by Ulrike Dirmayer.

The new exhibition began - after a comprehensive revitalization of the premises - on July 21, 2018. The main focus of the gallery is the presentation of contemporary artists with a space for young, experimental positions. Exhibitions by Venezuelan artists who have left their homeland complete the gallery program.

2019 ARIK BRAUER Festival exhibition for the 90th birthday with a new cycle of pictures on the Salzburg-specific topic "Jedermann" by Hugo von Hofmannsthal
