Michael Kunz (* 1958 in Leverkusen ) is a German sports, exercise and rehabilitation scientist and teaches as a professor for prevention management and health promotion at the Bamberg University of Applied Sciences - Private University for Health . He is also a consultant and managing director in the rehabilitation, education and therapy sectors.

Life

Michael Kunz passed his Abitur in 1979 in Leverkusen at the Carl-Duisberg-Gymnasium. After his service, he began studying sports science at the Sports University in Cologne in 1981 . Here he wrote his diploma thesis in 1985 at the Institute for Sports Medicine and finished his studies with a degree in sports science / sports teacher. During his studies, he also completed a therapeutic training at the Orthopedic University Clinic in Cologne. After completing his degree, he studied training and rehabilitation science at the German Sport University Cologne from 1985 to 1988 as part of his doctoral postgraduate course . Here he obtained his doctorate in 1997 in the subsequent doctoral studies. of sports science.

In addition to his various activities in therapy and rehabilitation, he has been active in education since 1988. In 2005 Kunz was appointed professor; from 2005 to 2008 he was course director at the Hohenfels University of Applied Sciences in Coburg . since 2009 he has been a lecturer at the Hohenfels University of Applied Sciences and the Bamberg University of Applied Sciences - Private University of Health and since 2012 at the Fresenius University in Cologne. At the beginning of 2013, Kunz was reappointed professor for health sciences at the Bamberg University of Applied Sciences. In addition to his university activities, Kunz works as a manager in various companies in the health and education sector.

In 1993, as part of the management of an outpatient rehabilitation facility, he founded a further training facility in Engelskirchen for medical and health-oriented professions, in which courses with medical-therapeutic and training science content were offered and carried out. This part of the company was transferred to the Engelskirchen advanced training academy in 2004. His main focus in the training sector was initially on the development and implementation of indication-specific analysis and training programs. The further training curriculum of the so-called MAT / MTT (“Medical Advanced Training / Medical Training Therapy”), which is still valid today for relevant health care providers, was largely co-developed by him. In 2012, all courses of the rehabilitation and advanced training facility for professional training according to AZWV were certified by CERTQUA both in terms of content and provider. In over two decades, Michael Kunz has taught several thousand course participants nationally and internationally in the courses he has carried out. His technical competence in the implementation of training programs with reference to indications or in the case of functional impairments has also made him internationally known. For example, Chinese delegations from the fields of training, therapy and rehabilitation in high-performance sports have been with him several times for specific further training courses in Germany, for example in preparation for the Olympic Games in Beijing in 2008. His specialist expertise is broad and relates to all main forms of motor stress; however, his focus is in the area of ​​“strength”, in which he has recognized expert expertise.

Kunz worked for many years as an expert, for example quantitative development of musculoskeletal rehabilitation in NRW (2007) or evaluation of outpatient rehabilitation results in Gelsenkirchen (2009).

Since 1985 Kunz has been active in various research areas. In the first few years, the focus was on research questions on physiological and adaptive changes in performance and indication-related training and stress processes. Since the end of the 1990s, health services research in therapy and rehabilitation has increasingly come to the fore. In various contract research questions, he particularly investigated therapy and rehabilitation needs.

Kunz has authored two monographs and has written and published numerous contributions and articles in specialist journals. He also has a patent in the field of medical technology. Since 1997 he has been on the therapeutic advisory board of the journal "Physical Therapy"
