Michael LeMoyne Kennedy

Michael LeMoyne Kennedy (born February 27, 1958 in Washington, DC , † December 31, 1997 in Aspen ) was the sixth of eleven children of Robert F. Kennedy and Ethel Skakel-Kennedy .

Life

Michael Kennedy was the executive director of Energy Corporation Citizens, a nonprofit that his brother Joseph founded. He also helped organize Edward M. Kennedy's re-election campaign in 1994.

Despite a political career, Michael Kennedy is best known for an affair with his children's underage babysitter , which became a public scandal in 1996. The affair allegedly started three years earlier when the babysitter was only 14 years old. Michael Kennedy was then charged with seducing minors. However, she did not file a complaint and he was acquitted. Kennedy then volunteered for therapy at an alcoholic rehabilitation clinic .

Kennedy was married to the daughter of American football star Frank Gifford , Victoria Gifford. Shortly after the babysitting affair became known, Michael and his wife Victoria separated. They had three children.

Michael Kennedy died in December 1997 in a skiing accident in Aspen. He was skiing with several other members of the Kennedy family when he crashed into a tree unchecked. According to the other Kennedy family members, they played "football" on skis. Michael Kennedy wore neither a helmet nor protective equipment.
