Michael Levine

Michael Levine (born December 20, 1939 ) is a former American agent who was particularly active in the field of drug trafficking to enforce US law under the Drug Enforcement Administration (DEA) and named "America's top" by 60 Minutes magazine undercover cop for 25 years ".

He received a lot of attention for fundamentally criticizing the CIA .

Levine came from a family of Russian and Polish Jews, was born in the United States and grew up in the Bronx. From 1958 to 1961 he served in the US Air Force. After college, he began working as a federal agent, first with the IRS and then as a special agent with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco and Firearms (ATF). At this point he also became an agent for American Customs and began working undercover around the world. He was active on practically every continent, from Asia to South America. Most of his life he worked as a secret agent with the DEA.

Michael Levine is regarded as a top expert in his field, has been performing relevant instructor and advisory functions for a wide variety of bodies - especially in the police academies - for decades, has acted as an expert on over 500 national and international civil and criminal proceedings at federal and state courts and also participated in over 100 news programs or features where he was consulted as a specialist.

He is considered one of the finest secret agents and international drug specialists, and some of his investigative findings are among the most significant in the history of the drug war. He has received awards from US Customs, the IRS, and the FBI / DEA Task Force for his work.

Among other things, he published his autobiography Undercover, authorized by the DEA, in 1988 and the New York Times bestseller Deep Cover in 1990 .

Levine's son, Richard Levine, was killed in a gunfight in 1991 while serving as a New York police officer; he witnessed an armed robbery.
