history

The diocese Cần Thơ was on September 20, 1955 by Pope Pius XII. Established from the cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Phnom-Penh as Apostolic Vicariate Cần Thơ . On November 24, 1960, the Vicariate Apostolic Cần Thơ gave parts of its territory to establish the Diocese of Long Xuyên .

The Apostolic Vicariate Cần Thơ was on November 24, 1960 by Pope John XXIII. with the Apostolic Constitution Venerabilium Nostrorum raised to the diocese and subordinated to the Archdiocese of Saigon as a suffragan .
