The Roman Catholic Diocese of Vinh ( Latin Dioecesis Vinhensis , Vietnamese Giáo Phan Vinh ) is in Vietnam Located Roman Catholic diocese based in Vinh .

history

Pope Gregory XVI founded the Apostolic Vicariate South Tonking with the Apostolic Constitution Ex debito on March 27, 1846 from cession of territory by the Apostolic Vicariate Westtonking .

On December 3, 1924, it took the name, Vicariate Apostolic Vinh. With the Apostolic Constitution Venerabilium Nostrorum , it was elevated to a diocese on November 24, 1960.

Pope Francis divided the diocese on December 22, 2018 and established the diocese Hà Tĩnh from the separated part . The previous bishop of Vinh, Paul Nguyên Thai Hop OP , was appointed its first bishop. The previous auxiliary bishop in Hung Hoá , Alphonse Nguyên Huu Long PSS , was appointed as the new bishop of the remaining diocese of Vinh .
