Emmanuel Lê Phong Thuân

Emmanuel Lê Phong Thuân (born December 2, 1930 in Mỹ Luông , An Giang , Vietnam ; † October 17, 2010 ) was the Roman Catholic Bishop of Cần Thơ .

Life

Emmanuel Lê Phong Thuan received by his philosophical and theological studies at the seminary of Saint-Joseph in Saigon the on May 31, 1960 ordination . Between 1964 and 1970 he moved to Germany, where he received his doctorate in canon law. After returning to Vietnam, he taught at the Can Tho diocese seminary.

Pope Paul VI appointed him on June 6, 1975 titular bishop of Abthugni and appointed him coadjutor bishop of the diocese of Cần Thơ. He was ordained bishop by his predecessor, Bishop Jacques Nguyên Ngoc Quang . However, he was only able to exercise his office to a limited extent due to the restrictions imposed by the communist government. In 1990 he was appointed Bishop of Cân Tho, but remained under strict surveillance.
