Michael Adriaan Meert (born November 6, 1953 in Bonn ) is a German film director .

Life

Studied at the German Film and Television Academy in Berlin .

Co-founder of the video movement in the 1970s. Specialist in music documentaries and docu-drama.

Michael Meert is influenced by Andrej Tarkowski , Joris Ivens and Johan van der Keuken , whom he met at the German Film and Television Academy Berlin (dffb) and later by the Polish dramaturge Edvard Bernstein-Zebrowski and the director Krzysztof Kieślowski , with whom he spent three years worked and debated for a long time at the Künstlerhaus Bethanien , Berlin. Using the new video technology, he explored areas at the border between documentary film and video art . From this a continuous work in the field of music film developed. His aim is to bring poetic principles into everyday TV life.

Since 1993 he has been married to the Spanish journalist Maite Serrano, who also works on the film projects. Documentaries, mostly biographical stories in different cultures, are made parallel to the music films. His works became cult films: War of Tones , Bad Boy of Music, Der Flamencoclan and Herencia Flamenca.
